Ambassador Zhang Junsai Met with the Premier of Alberta
 and the Mayor of Calgary

On September 5th, H.E. Mr. Zhang Junsai, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Canada, met with Mme. Alison Redford Q.C., Premier of Alberta, and Mr. Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of Calgary respectively and exchanged views with them on China-Canada relations and China-Alberta, China-Calgary cooperation. Mme. Liu Yongfeng, Chinese Consul-General in Calgary, was present at the meetings.
Ambassador Zhang introduced the recent development in China-Canada relations and the progress in China-Alberta and China-Calgary cooperation, and encouraged Alberta and Calgary to fully tap into their strength and step up their cooperation with China in areas like energy and resource, tourism and people-to-people links.
Premier Redford welcomed the mutually beneficial cooperation between Alberta and China in areas such as energy, banking and education in recent years, including the growing Chinese investment in Alberta. She shared with the Chinese Ambassador her impression on China from her visit last June, and her expectations for further China-Alberta cooperation during her upcoming visit to China next week. She also mentioned that Alberta is planning to organize a delegation of local small and medium enterprises to visit China for more investment opportunities.
Mayor Nenshi said that the friendly exchanges and cooperation between Calgary and China dated back to a long time ago and the Chinese labours had played an indispensable role in the early development of Calgary city. Calgary and China have, besides the increased cooperation in energy sector, expanded their cooperation in new areas, including banking and tourism. He was heartened by the recent establishment of a Bank of China branch in Calgary and the fact that more and more Chinese tourists are coming to the Calgary Stampede. He expressed his confidence in his city's further ties with China in years to come.
